Last week I was reading a devotional book and came across a verse that was interesting. It was all about God carrying his people in hard times. I took notice of the verse reference, put down the book and went to find my Bible to look up the verses. I opened my Bible and started reading Isaiah 43 and the words just leapt of the page. Before me were some promises and truths from God that I needed to hear in preparation for our move to Numbulwar.

Isaiah 43

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…

(Lesson to be learnt: Do not fear! God is with us in every circumstance.)

Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
… Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.

(Lesson 2: We live amongst God’s people. He knows them and they are precious to Him.Eventhough they might be blind and deaf to the truth.)

…“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.
(Lesson 3: You are to be my witnesses in Numbulwar that I am God!)

This is what the LORD says— “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

(Lesson 4: God can make a way. God’s desire is for the people of Numbulwar {and everywhere else} to praise Him)

The funny thing is, when I went back to that devotional book the next day… those verses weren’t from Isaiah 43 at all, but another chapter of that book. Somehow God used that devotional book to get me to open up my Bible so that He could show me those truths. How precious that our Heavenly Father uses His Word to encourage, strengthen and prepare us for the road ahead.
